i've been participating in the occupy wall street movement as of late and i'm very passionate about it. there's a lot of things i want to see change in our country and i'm blown away that there's an energetic and growing group of people that are starting to scream and make noise in unison about these sorta things.
before i go any further, i wanna preface the rest of this post by saying that i am by no means a spokesperson for the whole movement. i'm in no way intelligent or elegant enough with words to act as a spokesperson (plus i use the word 'douche' waaaaaaaay too much). these are just some of my own personal thoughts.
i'm no anarchist. i don't want to blow everything up and start again. i don't wanna get rid of our political system and i don't want to burn all the corporations down to the ground. i personally believe we here in america have the potential for greatness. however, i think at the moment there's a ton of signs that we are wasting that potential, and sadly most of it starts with the politicians and corporations.
corporations in their purity can be great. they provide us with goods and services as well as jobs. this is all very fundamental and essential stuff for the good of society. however, corporations make money and unfortunately that can lead to greed. and as of late greed has gone unchecked. not only has our system allowed many corporations to run our economy into the ground all for the sake of profit for those who run said corporations, but our politicians have let the corporations involve themselves financially in our political system. they are receiving political favor in exchange for campaign contributions.
and the politicians are no better for allowing this to happen. i don't believe corporations should be allowed to throw any money into politics. politics should be its own thing completely independent of any outside influence. we need our politics to be as pure as possible.
it all boils down to this.... what's really wrong with our system is that the douchebags have taken over. douchebags take powerful positions in corporations and politics and make everything work for their own benefit, forsaking the greater good of all people.
profit over people is what's wrong here. people have stopped using their hearts and consciences when it comes to making all the big decisions. when this happens, anyone who isn't rich is usually left out in the cold.
and when decisions are made to increase profits at the expense of the well being of others, sometimes it might seem to them as the smart thing to do. and in a short sighted way, the results probably back this assertion up.
but they can't go on being douchebags forever before the rest of us take notice. maybe it's our undouchey ways that have made us so naive this whole time to allow the douchebags to get away with this, but sooner or later constant douching of the majority of the country's population is bound to backfire.
and it's beginning to. people are pissed and their taking to streets and parks to shout it. i'm hoping what we're seeing here is just the beginning of an awakening of the down trodden good guy, the backfiring of the rich's plan to stay rich at our expense.
what i hope to see is change, change inspired by people, not politicians or catchy phrases. i hope to see that we can collectively influence changes in the system that will allow more prosperity for the masses.
we need politicians and ceo's who take their positions seriously and realize the severe consequences of their actions. we need people in power who know that when making decisions, they should first and foremost consider the well being of all people, not just the fortunate few.
we need less douchebags. that's why i'm out there occupying wall street. cuz i want the douchebags to know i'm on to them, and hopefully their days are numbered.

I couldn't agree with you more.
Principled ethical capitalism and principled ethical leadership are perfectly acceptable to me.
But we must always remember that even in its most pious form, capitalism is about creating wealth and that is why we need good and honest men to write laws and regulations designed to keep the capitalists on the straight and narrow path.
Excellent post, my friend!
