maybe i'm desensitized due to social networking. it seems everyday another celebrity leaves this world and i find out because my facebook newsfeed or twitter timeline is cluttered with RIP's and whatnot for whoever is the latest to join the dead celebrity club. how many fucks can one give about people you don't actually know? at some point my supply of fucks is exhausted and i'm just all out of fucks to give. sorry dead celebrities, you should've probably died when i had a healthier supply of fucks.
but it's more than that. why should i give a fuck about people who don't even know who i am? my death wouldn't put a dent in their day. i'm supposed to feel sadness and be mournful when someone i'm a fan of goes? i just can't subscribe to that plan.
it almost makes me wish there were no celebrities... that the concept just didn't exist. i hate the idea of worshiping anyone or anything.... i think almost all forms of worship are a total waste. while you're busy getting to know your celebrities, you got 10 neighbors on your block who's first names you don't know. they might suck at life, but you don't know that for sure cuz you don't even try to communicate with them. and who's to say the celebrities who steal your focus aren't douchebags in "real life?"
and celebrities are rich for doing things that are fun to do (in most cases... there's exceptions to every rule). they get to lead awesome lives full of awesome shit. i'm not gonna cry for them when they die. they got the chance to live life on a way awesomer level. fuck crying! they had it good! those bastards were lucky!
let me be an actor! i'm over here too busy at my office administrative position saving up the $20 it takes to pick up your latest dvd. i'm not gonna say that celebrities don't earn the right to do awesome things for a living, but shit's a little inflated. i think movie stars and athletes could get by just fine if they all made 6 figure salaries. they don't need all that money. most of them were close to waiting tables for the rest of their lives anyways. they were a small step away from grinding this life out on the minimum wage plan.
it's all good and well to like someone for the things they create, but leave it at that. and don't give me that bs that every single thing they create is good. every artist, every hero, every celebrity has their name on a turd somewhere. no one's complete discography is a perfect 10.
and if you can waste all that energy to think someone you'll never meet is awesome, try using some of that energy to go find some awesome people around you... at your job, on your block, in your class.... some awesome people that you can actually hang out and be awesome with. that'd be a way better experience then rereading a wikipedia page for the 20th time while sending direct messages through twitter to @whoeveritisyouwasteyourtimeobsessingover.
and if you meet some awesome people and they just up and die, by all means, have a good cry about it.
